Story of the Old Testament: Isaiah's Encounter with God |
Paul Stith |
A Christian Response to Fear
Psalm 56:1-4
1.
Being fearful is a
reality of the Christian life
Because we
live in a fallen world
Rom 1:28-32
Because we
are fallen people
Jer 17:9
Because
Satan is the determined enemy of our souls
Rev 12:10; 1 Pe 5:8;
2.
Being fearful is a
reality, but God has given us a response
We must be
responsible
(Lu 12:16ff; James 4:13;
Prov 27:1)
We must
actively trust God (Ps 56:3)
This
involves understanding the nature of God
This
involves knowing the promises of God
We must
guard against pretending to trust God
by
neglecting the means he has given us
while
using sinful means to accomplish a goal
by
saying he has directed us by false revelation or our own desires
by
hoping in our own ingenuity, natural gifts or personal resources
Jesus did well to trust God in every aspect of life, from
the smallest details to the cross.
We
cannot conceive a more difficult circumstance than the death Christ
died on the
cross.
We will not face a situation for
which God is insufficient so we would do well to trust him even as
Jesus did.
