Sermon Outline
Waging Spiritual Warfare Part 2
Ephesians 6:14-15
The main theater of spiritual warfare is not some exorcist's chamber; it is in our day-to-day relationships.
~ Tom Ascol
By way of Review:
1. Dont be discouraged in the battle
2. Do not underestimate the nature or gravity of the battle
3. Do not falter in the battle
1. Understand the spiritual powers and realities at work, i.e. know what the Bible says about spiritual things.
2. More than understanding, believe the truth
3. Make every provision for a life a righteousness
3a. Dont confuse this with imputed righteousness
3b. This is a call to practical righteousness
3c. When we fail to do this we are robbed of joy.
3d. When we fail to do this we are unproductive (we bear no fruit)
3e. When we fail to do this we bring reproach on the name of Christ and the church for which he died.
Bible Study Outline
1. The chief end of God is to glorify God and enjoy himself forever.
a. God's sovereignty is the foundation of his happiness. Ps. 115:3
How can God be completely happy when there is sin and suffering?
wide-angle lens vs. narrow-angle lens. See Isaiah 53:10-11.
b. God delights in his own glory. Isaiah 42:1,8; Ps. 19:1; Eph. 1:5-6
2. God's happiness is the foundation of Christian hedonism.
a. God's pursuit of pleasure overflows to the benefit of his people. Eph. 1:5-6,12,14
- redemption
- praise (Our enjoyment of God is a form of praise of God's perfection.)
"God's quest to be glorified and our quest to be satisfied reach their goal in this one experience: our delight in God which overflows in praise."
Therefore, God's pursuit of his glory and our enjoyment of God are one and the same! Jer. 32:40-41
b. God's pursuit of pleasure is a model for our own pursuit.
Enjoyment of God yields the highest pleasure. Ps. 16:11
A wide-angle pursuit of pleasure is essential. Matt. 6:19-21
