Outline
Rich Young Ruler
(Matt 19:16-22, Mark
What was he (the rich, young ruler) right about?
1. He was right to be urgently concerned about the important issue of how
to inherit eternal life.
2. He was right to approach Jesus without being concerned about what
other people may think.
4. He was right to come directly to Jesus , the one person who was (and
is) the foremost authority on the question of eternal life.
3. He was right about Jesus being both good and a teacher.
What was he wrong about?
1. He was wrong to think that Jesus was just one of many good teachers.
2. He was wrong to assume that eternal life is some sort of formula.
But, instead, it is a personal relationship and total dependence on Jesus .
3. He was wrong to think that eternal life could be earned by
doing good works or by keeping the ten commandments.
4. He was wrong (for an eternity) to turn away from Jesus , the only true source
of life, abundant and eternal.
